The historic cemetery on the National Register of Historic Places includes numerous monuments of the World War I era, including a World War I memorial erected in 1925.

The main WWI monument is a large rough-hewn granite stone with a brass memorial plaque. Sixteen names are inscribed.

Monument Inscription: “That the memory of the men of Clarke County who gave their lives in the World War in defense of their country and to perpetuate its ideals shall live as an inspiration to courage and patriotism. 1914 - 1918. Erected by the Auxiliary of the Allen R. Fleming Post 20, American Legion, Athens Georgia, May 30, 1925”

The tablet at the county courthouse is inscribed, “This tablet is placed to perpetuate the memory of Burke County (Ga) men who, in the service of their country in the World War, lost their lives in the sinking of the S.S. OTRANTO, October 6th 1918.”  The names of seven local victims are listed.

This memorial in Pershing Point Park is dedicated to residents of Fulton County who died in World War I and is named for Gen. John Pershing. It is located at Peachtree and West Peachtree Streets in Midtown Atlanta.

On the grounds of the Morgan County Courthouse, erected by the local Daughters of the American Revolution in 1930, the statue of a soldier is inscribed “The Boys from Morgan County who fought in the World War.”  It is rare in that it is one of the few stone reproductions of the original Spirit of the American Doughboy statue which stands in Nashville, Ga.  Most of the many copies around the nation are in copper.

The Chattooga County copy of the famous statue originally stood in Circle Park in Trion, but was moved to the VFW memorial home and rededicated in 1988.
